Welcome to AI at St Mary's CofE Primary
At St Mary's CofE Primary, we embrace a forward-thinking approach to education. We are excited to introduce our new AI programs, designed to enhance the learning experience for our students. By incorporating innovative and creative technologies into our curriculum, we aim to provide a personal and engaging educational journey for each child. Our AI initiatives are tailored to foster curiosity and a love for learning in a supportive and nurturing environment.
Understanding the importance of keeping pace with technology, our AI programs are crafted to help children develop essential skills for the future. We focus on creating interactive and enjoyable learning experiences that encourage children to think creatively and solve problems effectively. By integrating AI into our teaching methods, we are preparing our students to be confident, capable, and well-equipped for the challenges of tomorrow.
At St Mary’s, we believe that everyone is precious and loved by God, and we are committed to nurturing and empowering our pupils to flourish. As part of our aspiration to provide an innovative and engaging education, we embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a valuable tool to support learning.
Guided by our core values—Nurture, Aspire, Compassion, and Empower—we integrate AI thoughtfully into our teaching practices to encourage creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving among our pupils. AI enables us to adapt learning experiences to meet individual needs, ensuring that every child is supported in their journey to let their light shine.
By exploring AI responsibly and ethically, we equip our students with the skills they need to navigate the future with confidence, curiosity, and compassion, preparing them to make a positive impact in the world.
AI
At St Mary's, we are committed to integrating innovative technologies into our teaching practices. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the educational landscape, and we believe that embracing these advancements will enhance the learning experience for our students. By incorporating AI tools into our curriculum, we aim to foster critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills among our primary age children.
How we use this at St Mary's
Our approach to AI is designed to support personalised learning. By utilising AI-driven platforms, we can tailor educational content to meet the individual needs of each student. This not only helps children to learn at their own pace but also allows teachers to identify areas where additional support may be required. We are dedicated to ensuring that every child reaches their full potential while navigating their educational journey. You can never replace the interactions between a teacher and a pupil, the experience of a trip or speaking to a visitor. We are still very much a sporty, arts-driven, academic school. The AI we are introducing will enhance our core learning. We will evaluate it as we go along to ensure it is the best tool for our school.
You may have heard the word "EdTech" used in the news. That described the types of tools we used in the past or currently use, like our Chrome-Books or iPads. However, the AI tools that we are using (like Reading Plus or Dreambox Maths), EdTech is not necessarily the best phrase. One that fits better is PedTech (taken from the Greek work, Pegagogy meaning "how we teach"). How we teach is becoming increasingly personalised and this can only be a good thing for our learners.
Mr David has taken a lead on this and has published two books about successful ways introduce AI in schools:
Get to Grips with AI in Classrooms
It is our aim to wisely adopt AI into education to enrich our pupil's learning experience.
